Product Description

2025 Floral Scented White Peony from Gangtouping Mountain

If you want to know what "aromatic" really means in a White Peony, this is the tea to try. It was harvested in spring 2025 from tea gardens high on Gangtouping Mountain in Guanyang, Fuding, and it is the most fragrant White Peony in our range – not perfumed, not scented with anything, but carrying a floral note so pronounced that it is the first thing you notice from the dry leaf.

Why Gangtouping grows a louder flower

Guanyang sits in the mountainous interior of Fuding, and Gangtouping's gardens are set high enough that mornings are often banked in cloud. Frequent cloud cover and a wide day-night temperature range slow leaf growth and concentrate aroma; fertile, well-drained mountain soil keeps the buds plump and the leaves tender through the spring flush. That slow growth gives the leaf time to store volatile aroma compounds, which is why this garden's tea is noticeably more fragrant than leaf from flatter, warmer sites in the same region.

This lot is first-harvest raw material – one bud with one or two tender leaves picked at the start of spring, when the aromatic potential is at its peak. It is left unroasted, so the floral character comes through clean rather than being wrapped in a roast.

How the fragrance behaves in the cup

The dry leaf carries a soft, lingering floral scent. Brewed, the floral note opens fully – jasmine- and gardenia-like tones layered over the fresh character of the new tea. The liquor is clear amber, and the taste is fresh, sweet and moist, with the fragrance never feeling thin or overpowering.

Across several infusions the aroma deepens rather than fading: the early cups are airy and bright, the middle rounds bring a creamier mouthfeel and fuller sweetness, and the tail keeps a gentle floral trace even after the cup cools. Because the fragrance is built into the leaf rather than added, it stays consistent and never turns soapy or perfumed – the failure mode of cheaper "floral" teas.

How to enjoy it

Brew 5 g per 150 ml of water at 90–95°C. Short gongfu infusions of 20–30 seconds show the floral aroma at its best; lengthen the steep slightly on later rounds as the leaves open. For a larger, more casual cup, put 3–4 g into a 300–400 ml thermos and top up with hot water – the lower the temperature, the quieter the floral note becomes, so adjust to your taste.

Because it is unroasted and spring-fresh, it is also a good choice for the warmer months, when a clean, bright floral cup feels lighter than aged or heavily processed teas. Available in 50 g packs.
